In Tribute To is the final piece of work that I did with my friend Martin Broom, who sadly lost his battle with Cancer in September 2021. I took an age for me to convince Martin that he should follow his dream and start playing music, writing music & really to follow his heart and “do something, god damn it” I remember saying in one of our many late nights telephone calls. It was always laughing and joking and seeing things differently whenever we spoke. Martin was a MASSIVE supporter of the Rainbow Trust and his first attempt at singing would be on the single “I am the Phoenix of the moment”, Martin had felt he was experiencing a rebirth with his success in gaining a Masters Degree in University. We swiftly followed that single with a dual EP release comprising of “Sounds in the Key of Doom” (instrumental) & “Sounds in the Key of Broom” (with Martin singing on all the tracks). It represented both of our identities by doing the EP’s in mirror image format.
The EP’s done really well when released and Martin was labelled Dr. Doom Broom by fans of his work, Martin embraced this wholeheartedly and used it often in interviews and conversations online.

We had such a wicked time recording the EP’s that we planned on a follow up in 2022. We got all the music done in one weekend and just before he left to travel home Martin did a rough take of “The Pen that wrote this Story” and we were blown away. Martin booked himself in to a Studio in London and got me the first take within a few short weeks. Then the god damn pandemic hit and crashed all of our momentum. Then the day I got the call from him telling me that like his Mum & Sister he had Cancer. We cried together for a short time and then agreed that as soon as the restrictions were lifted I would go and stay with him for a few days. Sadly that never happened. What did happen was Martin left us with a complete song and some voice recordings he did. My fav of all is “5 Goodbye Poems”, these poems I have sampled and placed at the start of each song, like an introduction of sorts.

This EP apart from mixing, mastering & sampling is exactly how Martin left them, in reality these tracks are by nowhere near complete but I have decided to preserve them as is, Martin would have loved that I am sure.

I hope you enjoy what Martin and I did in my home studio in 2021. I have chosen to release this EP on 31st December 2022 to honour Martin's Birthday.
